The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called for improved security services in the campuses.

The vice-chancellor made the call during a discussion with a security expert, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hi-Tech, Barrister Lawrence Alobi.

Alobi was on a courtesy visit to the office of the vice-chancellor, in Lafia, recently.

The Hi-Tech is one of the security firms managing the security system of the University.

Abdul Rahman commended Alobi and his firm for being among the earliest bodies that laid the security foundations of the University.

He thanked the Alobi for the support and direction he gave to his security firm, saying that the Hi-Tech security personnel demonstrate competence and professionalism.

Abdul Rahman, however, called for more training and retraining of the personnel to update them on latest ways of handling security issues that affect students and staff, pointing out that the populations of both groups were increasing.

The vice-chancellor said that, soon, the University would invite some security experts to sensitise the University community on security matters, "so everybody should be conscious of his or her own security."

Abdul said that security of people and property in and around the campuses of FULafia should not be left in the hands of security agents alone.

"When people are enlightened on how to handle security around them, it will help the security personnel to their work effectively," he said.

Earlier, Alobi said that he was in the vice-chancellor's office to congratulate him on his appointment as the third vice-chancellor of the University and wish him successes in his assignment.

He identified security as key to any organisation's success, saying that "without security, there will be no development."

He assured the vice-chancellor of his readiness to work with him for the success of the University, commending the vice-chancellor for maintaining peace in FULafia.

He prayed God to make the University become one of the best in the country in terms of academic standards and discipline of both staff and students.
