Again, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has bagged an award of excellence in leadership.

This time, the award was bestowed on him by the Arewa Women Peace Forum (AWPF) for his outstanding contributions to national development.

The award, tagged: "An Icon of Humanitarian Services and Nation Building," was presented to Abdul Rahman at his office by Rahama Sarki, the Senate President and CAC of the association, in Lafia, recently.

Presenting the award to the vice-Chancellor, Rahama said that Abdul Rahman's choice for the award was sequel to the contributions he made in the areas of "youths empowerment, philanthropy, human and education."

Rahama said that the main aims and objectives of her organisation were to enlighten and educate parents on the importance of girl-child education, unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

To achieve its objectives, she said that her association collaborates with other stakeholders such as religious leaders, philanthropic and government organisations and organise enlightenment programmes for especially youths.

She said: "We support and sponsor children who lost their parents to further their education, we fight for girls going through sexual harassment and support victims of sexual harassment."

She described Abdul Rahman as a father, mentor, role model and philanthropist who has sacrificed a lot in the service of humanity, adding: "We hold you with high esteem and regards because you are a good man, focused, generous and kind. Indeed, you are worthy of emulation."

Responding, Abdul Rahman thanked the association for finding him worthy of receiving the award, promising not to let the Nigerian youths and women down.

He, magnanimously, dedicated the award to the staff and students of the University, saying that without their support nothing could be achieved.

Abdul Rahman encouraged the women not to relent in their fight for peace and development, empowerment of girl-child education and promotion of justice in the society.

He advised them to shun all forms of sentiment to avoid weakening their association’s struggles, promising to continue supporting the association for the betterment of the nation.

In his votes of thanks, the Registrar of FULafia, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, thanked the group for bestowing on Abdul Rahman the award of excellence.

Those who accompanied Rahama to FULafia included Hosea Abaka Jennifer, the minority leader, Fatima Ibrahim, secretary, Mary John, provost and Helen Bakoshi, P.R.O.
