Research Interest

My area of research interests are:

The teaching of French as Foreign Language in Nigeria,

Translation of Pragmatic Texts from French to English in Nigeria,

Translation of African oral literature into French and English


Mr. Paulinus UMAH is a holder of a Master’s Degree in translation and interpretation (French to English/English to French) of the Institut de Traducteurs, d’Interprètes et de Relations Internationales (ITIRI), University of Strasbourg, France with more than five years of experience as a freelance translator/interpreter (French to English/English to French) for the French Institute of Nigeria (the educational and cultural arm of the Embassy of France in Nigeria). He is also a freelance translator for the Alliance Française Port Harcourt and the ECOWAS Commission.

In addition, he is a holder of Certificate of Professional Aptitude in the Teaching of French as a Foreign Language (CAPEFLE) and Bachelor Degree in French (Linguistics) from the University of Rouen, France. Before joining the Federal University of Lafia, he taught French as Foreign Language at all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) at the French Institute of Nigeria for over seven years. Furthermore, he is also a holder of a Diplôme Approfondi en Langue Française (Advanced Diploma in the French Language) – DALF – level C2, awarded by the Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques (International Centre for Pedagogical Studies) – CIEP, Paris. He is currently completing an MPhil in translation studies in the highly prestigious Ecole Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs (ESIT), Sorbonne-Nouvelle, Paris, France.
