Research Interest

Genetics and Plant Breeding


Mrs Sirajo Salamatu Abdul is from Plateau State, north central Nigeria. She is an assistant lecturer in the department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, Federal University Lafia. She obtained her B.Sc. in biology from Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University Sokoto, M.Sc. in Cytogenetic and Plant Breeding from the University of Jos and a PhD applicant to study genetics and plant breeding in the Federal University of Lafia. Her research area includes crop breeding, genetics and conservation. Her main interest in crops includes onion, garlic and okra. She has particular interest in onion because of its short shelf life. The research in onion has already been established from morphological, to cytological and now to molecular studies. She has published her research findings in seven (7) peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences. She has presented some research papers in local conferences. She is a member of these professional bodies: Genetic Society of Nigeria (GSN) and Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSSON). She is presently supervising seven (7) undergraduate students and one (1) postgraduate diploma student. She is a member of the Faculty of Science Examination Vetting Committee and Examination Misconduct Committee of the Federal University Lafia. She is SIWES coordinator department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, Federal University Lafia . She so much enjoys motherhood, travelling and reading.
