Biography

Joy Nwiyi is a graduate of English and Literary studies from the University of Calabar. She holds a Masters and Doctorate degree in Literature-in-English from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research interests include African literature, contemporary Nigerian transnational literature, gender and postcolonial discourses. Her research focus so far has been on the significance of Nigerian migrant writings as imperative in understanding transnational interaction and its complex implication in contemporary times; and the complex existence of women in modern African writings.

Dr. Nwiyi has taught courses such as the Use of English, Commonwealth Literature, Literature of the African Diaspora, The African Novel, African Oral Literature, African Women Writers, Gender in Literature, African American Literature, Caribbean Literature, Children’s Literature and Introduction to Nigerian Literature and African Drama in the university. She is a member of English Studies Association of Nigeria (ESAN), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and Literary Society of Nigeria (LSN). Nwiyi has her publications in international and national journals.
