Basic and Remedial Studies

About Us
The School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS-FULafia) was first established as Centre for Foundation Studies on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 to train and upgrade the quality of the would-be intakes of the University. The Centre was later upgraded to SBRS to provide stop-gap programmes aimed at increasing the pool of qualified candidates, to address the poor enrolment of indigenes of catchment States in science-related courses into the University. The cardinal objective is to bridge the educational gap existing between the educationally less developed and developed States, particularly in science related areas. The philosophy behind the upgrade is to have a wider scope and continue to run stop-gap programmes as well as preparing candidates for qualifying examinations into undergraduate programmes in tertiary institutions in the country and beyond. The broad vision of the School is to be a centre of academic excellence with a primary goal of training potential candidates for undergraduate studies through breeding qualitative prospective candidates for University admission. SBRS has been offering intensive couching in a serene environment devoid of undue influences and unnecessary distractions. We provide pre-degree and remedial training as well as advanced level basic programme; Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) to prepare candidates for admission into 100 level and 200 level undergraduate programmes respectively. Our students learn and get use to patronizing educational facilities such as libraries and laboratories, sundry trainings such as Computer Based Test (CBT) and field trips equipping students for future engagements by widening their understanding and knowledge of certain relevant issues of their studies. Students with poor academic prospects due to bad decision-making in the past, were offered another opportunity to amend the wrong decision. Adult students who return to school with additional responsibilities beyond what a typical secondary school student experiences, were provided with chance to adjust. Students whose academic weaknesses were not attended to, but rather ignored in previous educational levels, were upgraded to overcome such weaknesses. Likewise candidates struggling hard with English language which is the medium of communication, use of English has been provided as a saving grace for most of them.
