Welcome to Federal University Lafia Library. Our Library is one of the finest academic libraries. We proudly provide access to our collection of print and electronic academic resources to the University community and visiting scholars around the world. We are committed to providing world class library services that meet global standards and improve academic research. We are making

deliberate investments in our facility and staff, to continually improve our service delivery, and make it our goal to become one of the best libraries in the world.  

The University Library is the basic and central bibliographical organ of support to the academic programmes of the University. It serves as a support not only for teaching but also for research and development activities.

The vision of the Library is to be a strong repository of relevant and up-to-date print and electronic resources with which services befitting a top class University library will be readily made available to users.

The University library currently has a total of 1,625 volumes (books) and 1,025 journal titles among other reference materials. It has a capacity of 66 seats while the University Library monograph has a seating capacity of 48 persons.   

Students and Staff have found the library a very conducive environment for serious intellectual engagement

ELIGIBILITY FOR USE

The following categories of users shall be admitted into the library:

  • Registered students
  • Registered staff of the University
  • Authorized members of the community
  • Users under interlibrary cooperation  

Hours of service

The library shall be opened for use as indicated below:

  • Monday – Friday:      8.00am – 10.00pm
  • Saturday:                 8.00am – 10.00pm
  • Sunday:                   2.00pm – 10.00pm  

 

AVAILABLE E- RESOURCES IN THE LIBRARY

 

Access to e-resources in the library can be through Internet or intranet. Some databases require passwords which could be obtained on request, while others do not require passwords.

 

RESOURCES ON INTERNET

 

HINARI

Provides free or very low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences.  It offers more than 58,000 information resources, with about 1500 form major publishers (Requires password.)

 

OARE

Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE) is coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Yale University, provides providing have over 4,150 peer-reviewed scientific journal titles (Requires password).

 

AGORA

Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture provides a collection of up to 6,100 key journals and 5,800 books to 2,900 institutions in more than 100 countries, it covers fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences (Requires password).

 

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY COMMISSION VIRTUAL LIBRARY

Includes Electronic books, journals, films, videos and maps (Requires password).

 

JSTOR

JSTOR has more than 900 content providers from more than 25 countries, with about 1320 archival journals, 64 current journals, 340 primary sources and 84 e-books (Can only be accessed within the campus)

 

ARXIV

Open access to about 1,067,759 e-prints in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance and Statistics (Does not require password)

 

ACADEMIC JOURNALS OPEN ACCESS

 

Publishers of peer-reviewed open access journals,  it currently publishes 111 open access journals covering art and humanities, engineering, medical science, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences and agricultural sciences. (Does not require password)

 

BENTHAM OPEN ACCESS

Publishes over 100 peer reviewed open access journals in science, technology, medicine and social sciences (Does not require password).

 

BERKELEY ELECTRONIC PRESS – DIGITAL COMMONS NETWORK

Collection of peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings and so on (Does not require password).

 

TAYLOR AND FRANCIS OPEN ACCESS

Offer access to various disciplines in peer reviewed journals(Does not require password).

 

HERBERT OPEN ACCESS

Provide a rapid access to quality peer-reviewed journals covering all disciplines widely in life sciences, medical research, chemistry alongside technology and management (Does not require password ).

 

DIRECTORY OF OPEN ACCESS

An online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. It has about 10,529 journals, 2,089,196 articles and 6,443 searchable articles.

eGRANARY DIGITAL LIBRARY  

Collection of documents, it provides access to over 30 million internet resources including e-books, e- journals, complete and partial websites, software, presentations, videos and audios to users( It can be accessed through the egranary browser).

 

LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS)

This is an online platform where students access their notes and interact with their lectures. Lecture notes on various subjects taught in the university are uploaded and made accessible to students.

 

DIGITAL MATERIALS PLATFORM

This is an offline library that stores content digitally and accessible to all on campus, it has about 7,078 e-books and 1000 e-journals in the database.

 

DSPACE@FUL

This is the University’s institutional repository, it stores and access to research outputs, workshop and so on, of the institution’s activity. Presently, there are about 48 journal titles, 5 books/book chapters, 2 curriculum vitae and 17 presentations.
